Beatles EP: Magical Mystery Tour : Track 4
Year: 1967
Lyrics: Harrison
Length: 3.50
The lyrics to the Beatles Blue Jay Way were written by George Harrison. It is a simple story of the Beatles press officer Derek Taylor getting lost while trying to find George's house on Blue Jay Way in Los Angeles.
While George and Pattie were waiting for Derek to arrive he started tinkering on the organ about his friend being lost and unable to find him. The song Blue Jay Way was used in the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour film.
On the recording of Blue Jay Way George takes control double tracking the lead vocals and playing the organ. This Beatles song makes use of a technique called phasing in which the two recorded tracks are played slightly out of synch to produce a vociferous effect.
