Lyrics: Lennon and McCartney

Another set of emotional lyrics from John Lennon, I’ll cry instead is slightly different in that he would get his crying over with now before taking revenge on all the girls. He would do this by “breaking girl’s hearts all around the world”. The rational for this was that by treating people the way that he felt he had been treated i.e. making them fall in love with them then dumping them he would be able to feel better about himself. John Lennon as openly admitted to being violent towards women, and indeed wrote about this on the Sgt. Pepper album in the lyrics to the getting better song. I’ll cry instead is the first song in which john admitted some of his faults during his own deep self examination.
The music to I’ll cry instead has very much a country and western feel with George playing rockabilly guitar.
