Beatles Album: The Beatles AKA The White Album : Track 3
Year: 1968
Lyrics: Lennon, McCartney
Length: 2.10
The walrus was Paul! The lyrics of glass onion was written by John as a fun song that responded to all the rumors about hidden meanings of songs such as 'fixing a hole' and 'there's a place'.
The glass onion song borrows heavily from previously controversial Beatles songs, and references Strawberry fields, the fool on the hill, I am the walrus. To these songs he added new tantalizing references for the people searching hidden meanings in his songs. Bent back tulips was a reference to secretly spying on people 'see how the other half live'. Cast Iron shore is a beach in Liverpool; a dove tail joint speaks for itself.
As for the term Glass onion? Well this refers to a group that the Beatles had signed to their apple lable. John wanted to call the group Glass Onion, but they didn't like this name and eventually named themselves as Badfinger.
