Beatles Album: The Beatles AKA The White Album : Track 26
Year: 1968
Lyrics: Lennon, McCartney
Length: 2.42
The second song with a reference to honey on the white album, unlike the Rishikesh inspired 'wild honey pie', the honey pie lyrics are joyous. The song was written by Paul McCartney as a tribute to his father Jim; Paul had previously recorded a tribute to his dad's style of music with 'when I'm 64'.
The song has a 1920's feel and tells the story of a working girl from the north of England who left to find her fortune in the USA. The lyrics of honey pie describe the love for the movie girl and how he would go weak at the knees upon meeting her. Honey pie was not the only Beatles song to have 20's feel about it on the white album, with 'and your mother should know' also harking back to an earlier time.
