Beatles Album: Let It be : Track 6
Year: 1970
Lyrics: Lennon, McCartney
Length: 4.01
The Beatles let it be song was recorded at the start of 1969 well before the Beatles broke up and before the recording of the Abbey Road album.
The let it be lyrics were written by Paul McCartney at a time when the group were falling apart. At this time Yoko Ono and Linda Eastman and entered into the picture and Paul and John both had strong protective feelings for their loved ones who they found more important than the Beatles. This resulted in George Harrison leaving the Beatles, as his songs were not being accepted because of John and Paul's egos. Although George came back, Paul made himself the leader of the group as he saw the Beatles falling apart. Let it be is him describing the feelings that were going on in his mind during this rough period.
Although the Let it be song has religious undertows the mother Mary in the song is not the virgin Mary but Paul's mother Mary, who he often dreamed about. Although Mary had died when Paul was a young teen, he often dreamt of Mary and the answers that she gave him when he was young that helped him through his darkest hours.
