John Lennon and Paul McCartney shared the writing of the Lyrics for the Beatles song with a little help from my friends. They were attempting to do a Ringo Starr style song, which they had done many times before on tracks such as Yellow Submarine. That is they wanted to do a sing a long style of song. It was John Lennon who came up with the idea of starting each line of the verses with a question. Even Cynthia Lennon got involved with the lyrics to this Beatles song suggesting the use of ‘I’m just fine’ John liked the idea of an answer but came up with the much stronger lyric ‘I can’t tell you but I know that it’s mine’
Ringo Starr does indeed do the lead vocals on with a little help from my friends; he is supported on backing vocals by John and Paul.
