Beatles EP: Magical Mystery Tour : Track 1
Year: 1967
Lyrics: Lennon, McCartney
Length: 2.48
The lyrics of the magical mystery tour were written by Paul McCartney as an advertisement for the film of the same name.
The Beatles magical mystery tour film was Paul's idea; he wanted to make an experimental film in which they made things up and filmed it as they went along. The film was to be shown on the BBC.
Paul was inspired by the idea of mystery coach trips which still exist in England to this day; you get in the bus and the driver will take you to a place; could be anywhere but usually a resort and a few historical sites would make up the internally. The Magical bit was chosen as this would give the Beatles leeway to do and film whatever they liked during the filming of magical mystery tour.
The magical mystery tour lyrics were written in the studio and it was Paul's idea to write a song that would act as an advertisement for the song that could be shown on tv before the film was released. The lyrics include many references to coach trips and travel such as reservations, and a guarantee of satisfaction.
