The song was part of a great transition that the Beatles were going through and from this point on their songs were much more philosophical in nature. John says that he came up with the song after struggling to come up with new material, he sat down exhausted and thought to himself I’m a real nowhere man and I’m sitting in a nowhere land, now that’s great lyrics.
