Beatles Album: Abbey Road : Track 4
Year: 1969
Lyrics: Lennon, McCartney
Length: 3.28
The lyrics to the Beatles song Oh Darling were by Paul McCartney, who wanted to record the song in the style of a 1950's rock and roll ballad. As with many of Paul's songs it is a plea for his loved one to be faithful for him, and return his everlasting love that he himself is prepared to give.
John Lennon thought that though Paul's song he could have sang it much better as his voice was better suited; to get the desired effect Paul sang the oh darling lyrics none stop for over a week to wear out his voice; on hind site it would have been much easier just to let John sing the song.
Paul was never truly happy with the song and rewrote and recorded it as Let me roll it when he was in wings.
