Beatles Album: The Beatles AKA The White Album : Track 22
Year: 1968
Lyrics: Lennon, McCartney
Length: 3.15
The Beatles Sexy Sadie song was written by John about the Maharishi who had made a sexual approch on the actress Mia Farrow during the Beatles time at the academy of meditation in Rishikesh in India. This understandingly led to John having less trust in the Maharishi and considering him to be a phony who had been fooling everyone.
John lennon was unable to use the Maharishi's name in the song for fear of being sued and so changed the name of the lead character to Sexy Sadie. On the demo recordings of the song he had less fear, and on these recordings he lays into the Maharishi with a vengence.
On top of the approach that the Maharishi has made on Mia, it was also being rumoured that he was only really interested in the Beatles to further his own fame and to make money. Whether or not these stories were true or not, the Beatles decided that it was time to end their time studying with him at Rishikesh and returned home from England.
