Beatles Album: Abbey Road : Track 2
Year: 1969
Lyrics: Harrison
Length: 2.59
George Harrison wrote the Beatles something song when recording the white album, as he did not complete the song in time and the let it be album was delayed the song appeared on Abbey Road. Between that time George offered the song to Joe Cocker to perform.
The first single off the Abbey Road album was also George Harrison's first Beatles single. The lyrics to something were mainly inspired by George's wife Pattie, and musically inspired by the great Ray Charles; who later recorded the song himself. However, some of the lyrics were directly lifted from one of the acts who recorded for the Beatles, James Taylor; the song was titled 'something in the way she moves'.
As it is his song George gets to do the singing on something. Despite being one of the most covered of all of the Beatles songs; (only yesterday was covered more) the song only got to number 4 in the charts and broke a streak of 11 number ones for the Beatles.
