Beatles Album: Help: Track 11
Year: 1965
Lyrics: Lennon and McCartney
Length: 2.35
The lyrics to tell me what you see were wrote by Paul McCartney. It is a bit of a throwaway song, the sort that the Beatles could churn out seemingly effortless when required by the record companies. The song basically says that he is trustworthy and that it is therefore safe for the girl to give her heart to him; all this can be gathered by taking a good look into his eyes. This song was rejected for the film help! as it was considered a weak track; the Beatles like the idea of the song, and it is thought t have had its meaning twisted and used as the inspiration for I’m looking through you.
For tell me what you see Lennon and McCartney duet for the statements ‘If you let me take your heart I will prove to you, but John sings the answers by himself ‘Don't you realise now, what you see is me’.
John Lennon: Lead vocals, Washboard.
Paul McCartney: Lead vocals, Bass guitar, Electric Piano.
