Beatles Album: Abbey Road : Track 13
Year: 1969
Lyrics: Lennon, McCartney
Length: 1.58
In the late 60's Beatles fans used to hang around the apple building on the off chance of being invited in to chill with the Beatles. These were known as the Apple scruffs, one of whom acted as the inspiration for the lyrics of the she came in through the bathroom window song. This song formed part of the medley on the abbey road album and was written by Paul McCartney.
The fans led by a girl called Diane broke into Paul's house through the bathroom window, and the fans took loads of souvenirs from Paul's house including photographs. Diane eventually got a job on the inside and worked at apple; Paul asked if she could help to get one of the photographs back that he treasured and she did. This inspire Paul to write she came in through the bathroom window about Diane, a girl who could steal but could not rob.
An alternative to this story is that it is based on a girl breaking into Paul's hotel while the Beatles were touring in the USA. Paul does the lead vocals on she came in through the bathroom window.
