Beatles Album: Help: Track 7
Year: 1965
Lyrics: Lennon and McCartney
Length: 3.03
John Lennon wrote the lyrics to the Beatles song ticket to ride, he often thought of the song as “being one of the first heavy metal records made”; in reality the kinks had already beaten the Beatles to this feat with their song ‘you really got me’. The lyrics describe a girl having a good time on John, and leaving him stranded; a theme very much prevalent in Lennon’s song writing.
It is thought that the song may have a double reference and refers to prostitutes in Hamburg , and their ticket to ride; a certificate of clean health required by the government.
John does the lead vocal and for the second time on the help! album Paul gets to play lead guitar.
John Lennon: Lead vocals, Rhythm guitar, Tambourine
